Event Description

Join us on Tuesday, November 17 from 6-8 pm at Falls Communications, Terminal Tower, 50 Public Square, 25th Floor, Cleveland.

We’ll have two breakout sessions:

Session 1:

Staying Safe and Secure on Twitter

Twitter has recently become one of the most popular social networks in the world. With this recent rise in popularity, Twitter is becoming a haven for spammers, criminals and other nefarious people with one thing in mind...to steal the personal information of you and your friends! This presentation will talk about the current threats that Twitter faces as well as the current security issues facing the users of Twitter. However, don't fear the Twitter! We will also discuss simple ways that you can identify scams on Twitter and how to use Twitter more securely.

The discussion will be led by Tom Eston. He’s a penetration tester for local Fortune 500 financial services organization. Tom currently serves as the security assessment team lead. Tom is actively involved in the security community and focuses his research on the security of social media. He is also a security
blogger, co-host of the Security Justice and Social Media Security podcasts.

Session 2:

Social Media Trends for 2010

As you all know, social media growth continues to skyrocket. In this group discussion, we’ll examine what social media will look like in 2010. A recent Harvard Business Review article says it will “get even more popular, more mobile and more exclusive.” What does that mean for those of us in the trenches? What’s the next big platform? What additions will current platforms roll out? Will there be better ways to measure ROI? Will companies get more serious about it? We’ll thumb wrestle for the answers.

And now the most important part, FOOD:

This month’s food theme is DIPS. So bring your best cold dip, hot dip, dippy friend (just kidding) – bring a chip dip, a bread dip, cheese dip, fruit dip, any kind of dip that will wow the crowd. And alcohol is permitted.

Since you have changed the day from Wednesday to Tuesday. Can't do it because of a class.

Big thanks to Falls Communications and Kate Eidam for all her help with this event. Also, our security breakout session is going to be phenomenal, Tom is really a top notch speaker.

Chips, dips & dippy friends sounds like a good plan.

Can we get an e-book committee meeting on the calendar at some point? Perhaps a break-out group in December, or maybe some of us can do an informal quick meet after these break-outs. It's time to think about e-book #2 so we can come up with a topic theme and ask for chapter submissions. We probably need to start soon to get the next one done and posted to Welcome to Social Media by the 1 yr anniversary of the 1st one.

We also need more bloggers for that site. If anyone (who writes well and gets SM) would like to volunteer, go to About This Blog.
