Social Media Club - Cleveland

A community for the champions of Social Media and those seeking to learn.

Just to refine a question I asked earlier this year, does anyone know of some local, private companies using Twitter, especially if they're doing anything interesting with it? I'm doing a story on the topic for Crain's Cleveland Business. Though I received some responses when I posted my social media question a while back, many weren't related to Twitter. I'm particularly interested in hearing about companies that aren't already in marketing, though I wouldn't mind hearing about the efforts of marketing companies as well.
Thanks,
Chuck

Thanks Chuck, I just posted your question via Twitter. I am looking forward to everyone's responses.
Chuck,

A couple months ago we launched a Twitter account (@SeniorPGA2009) for the 2009 Senior PGA Championship coming to Cleveland May 21-24. If you're interested, I'd love to talk to you about it. keith@pr2020.com.

Thanks,
Keith

I posted this on Twitter just before 4 p.m. (today, 3/31/09) "switching from Windstream DSL to twc Roadrunner." About an hour later I received this DM "windstream @phenzbiz I am sorry to hear that. Is there anything we can do to keep your business? I can be reached at 877-316-4078 or email wincanhe ..."

Windstream may not be the example you were looking for, but I was surprised by their catching my tweet especially since I had no # in the original tweet.

Hi Chuck,

I've been Tweeting for well over a year and I've had great success with my real estate business, (with Howard Hanna in Cleveland.) Just from Twitter alone, I've obtained a large listing, currently working with a few buyers and even renters from out of state looking to relocate. I typically post random, silly things, but I also answer real estate questions and offer advice. There's definitely a line you can't cross when promoting your business or pushing your services on Twitter. No one wants that and it will likely get you nowhere. Feel free to contact me if you'd like.

Chuck,

I saw Dominic's post on Twitter and wanted to respond. I am trying to use Twitter for our business however, it is a work in progress. But I am aware of a friend of mine who's family business is a local plumbing company and he was telling me a story about how one of the people who started following their company on Twitter had inquired about a quote and the person ended up accepting their bid for somewhere in the $18,000 range worth of work. Pretty Impressive is you ask me. You can find them on Twitter at Litts_Plumbing . Josh is my friend's name, I believe he is the one that maintains their Twitter account. I'm sure he'd be willing to tell you more about it. I can also tell you more about my idea for it for our business if you are interested, but as I said it would take awhile to get our vendors on board.
Anyone know of any larger Northeast Ohio companies using Twitter? Are small companies latching onto it moreso than big ones?
Chuck,
Thanks again for posting your Twitter questions on the site.

Here at Fathom SEO, we have many employees using Twitter (as individuals and the corporate account) as are many marketing firms in the area.

But we also use what many consider the "Enterprise Twitter" called Yammer which we use as an internal tool to post what we are working on, to share articles and, of course, bust each others chops. This alleviates the nonsense of email blasting out articles to the entire company because we can tag and organize items within Yammer (much like Twitter hashtags).
Hey Chuck,

Great question. I enjoyed reading everyone else's responses as well.

thunder::tech, an integrated marketing agency, maintains an agency twitter account at www.twitter.com/thundertech. Our twitter account has been a fun and evolving part of our agency. We've used it to make connections with other agencies, connect with our friends in the Cleveland area as well as find new hires, pick-up speaking opportunities and get involved with a few charitable projects.

We also advise clients on their use of Twitter. A recent Twitter project we were actively involved with was for the film, "Brothers At War" - www.twitter.com/brothersatwar.

I'd be happy to chat with you more about this. christina.karas@thundertech.com

Thanks for starting this dialogue.
