Social Media Club - Cleveland

A community for the champions of Social Media and those seeking to learn.

Hey folks,
Once again, I'm considering doing a story for Crain's on social media, this time focused on nonprofit organizations. I was hoping some of you might be able to give me the names of some local nonprofits using social media and how they are using it. I'm guessing social media tools come in pretty handy for nonprofits, especially when it comes to recruiting volunteers, building community support and fundraising, so I figured it would be good to see how and why local groups are using them.
Thanks for all your help with this and past stories - I appreciate it.
Chuck

Also, if you know for what purposes they are using social media tools, let me know.
Hi Chuck,

I would love a chance to talk to you about the work we are doing at the West Side Catholic Center. I started in mid-August as the Communication Systems Coordinator and am charged with providing first-tier technical support and Social Media Services to this INCREDIBLE nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food, clothing, shelter and advocacy to Cleveland families and individuals in need, regardless of religious affiliation. WSCC has received a 4 Star Rating from Charity Navigator for the last 2 years, we have recently been featured on Channel 3 News and were part of a front page New York Times article published a couple of weeks ago. We have SOLD OUT our Warm Hearts Winter Nights Roman Holiday Fundraising Gala on November 14th, in a year when events are being cancelled left and right, and we have been growing our social media presence, especially on Facebook.

We have been using social media to increase awareness of issues surrounding homelessness and make our monetary and in-kind needs be known. We are also promoting our fundraising events, providing information about our many programs and services, and acknowledging and thanking our volunteers, friends and staff for their service.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards,

Kristin Duke
Hi Chuck,

I'm on the PR and Media Committee for a Cleveland Non Profit - Rebuilding Together Cleveland. Currently, I'm developing and implementing a cohesive social media strategy from the ground up. Would love to chat with you! Jennifer
Hi,

I'm the community relations manager for Project Learn of Summit County - a literacy and basic education organization in Akron. It's the only comprehensive program of its kind in the area. The agency has a blog (www.projectlearn.wordpress.com), Facebook (www.facebook.com/projectlearn) and Twitter page (@projectlearn) to communicate with its audiences. Let me know if you want or need additional info.
Chuck, please let me know what you find. I am setting up a non-profit event for this fall and plan to promote it mainly through social media.

Thanks!
Hey Lindsey,

I did end up writing that story a while back. Here's the link:
