Social Media Club - Cleveland

A community for the champions of Social Media and those seeking to learn.

Thanks again to everyone that made it, and a special thanks to Jim and Dave Pokotar for letting us crash at their space. Mustache jokes aside, I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

To recap, we had lots of cupcakes, new faces and not nearly enough chairs or Christmas Ale, which meant we had a great turnout. After everyone introduced themselves and we discussed the committees and ebook, George moderated a great question and answer period. Here are the "serious" questions we discussed after Alexa bailed on us for Sushi Rock:

How can we best safeguard the trust of those interacting online?
How do you prune the people you follow on Twitter?
When was the last time you used MySpace and is there such a thing as joining too many social networks?
Does anyone know a good iPhone developer?
What are your feelings on PR agencies creating Wikipedia pages for clients?
Are we (SMC Cleveland) going to link up with other groups to come to Cleveland for a meetup/convention?
How do we avoid becoming overwhelmed on a daily basis with all the social media tools?
What is the mission or goal of our chapter?

Questions that may have not been completely serious included:
How do we get rid of the Tech Czar?
Is Dom's mustache sexy?

Our December meeting will less formal with a potluck at Dave Stack's place in Ohio City and details will be forthcoming. We'll also post the questions we did not get to in the forum over the next few days.

If you have pictures from the event, please upload them and we'll get them moderated as soon as possible.

Afterwards, I debriefed with Larry Collins and Jack Ricchiuto over soul food. They had some great feedback that I'll be sharing with the steering committee future events, though the holiday party probably isn't the right venue, since it sounds like the focus of that will be to PARTAY!

Would love to hear other people's comments about last night's events. What did you like about it? What would you like to see different in the future (constructive criticisms please)?

I also had a great time. Felt like we may have a direction that we may be going.
Great to see the folks I have known for a while. Great to meet more NEO's that are part of our Social Media scene.

I did a short post concerning the Cleveland Social Media Club. Right over here.

It was my first meeting and I am so glad I went. There were a lot of smart people there and I feel like I've tapped the right energy to help me to learn more about the social media tools I can implement for my clients. I liked the mix of people -- agency PR like myself, businesses, bloggers so I could get a "360" view of how people are using/viewing social media. Great job!

Good first meeting! Cupcakes were grand!

Liked the Q & A... maybe next time [after the party] attendees could share....
1) cool project I am working on now
2) tough problem I am wrestling with
3) latest tool/gadget/site I am using and what I like/hate about it

Ok. A Video. 3 wonderful minutes from the Nov. 19th meeting.

I'd like to second George's comment about soliciting any and all constructive criticisms, because feedback is the lifeblood of this organization.

For example, did anyone think we could have improved or changed the format, venue, time, day of the week, too dumbed down, too specific, et al?

Look who got called out! haha.

I'm so sad I had to miss all the Q & A's! Next time I'll dominate the discussion don't you worry.

I enjoyed my first meeting seeing old associates and meeting new and look forward to the next. I like Valis's idea as real world applications lead to more indepth and helpful discussions. In terms of bringing more structure there is nothing like an event to pull things together if we can find volunteers who would like to add something like that to their portfolio of experience.

Sorry I missed the Soul Food but I had to drill Jake on his addition flash cards.

As always a great time. I believe, much like my good friend Doug Craver, that we need to make the social media culture in Cleveland a world-class model.

See everyone in December.
